Oakland hit back-to-back homers in back-to-back innings for the first time in 21 seasons Wednesday afternoon to rout the Padres 12-4 and complete a sweep of a two-game series at Petco Park in San Diego.

Second baseman Franklin Barreto and catcher Josh Phegley hit back-to-back homers -- the first round-tripper of the season for each -- in the second off Padres starter Joey Lucchesi to give the A's a quick 4-0 lead.

Center fielder Mark Canha and first baseman Matt Olson went back-to-back in the third off Padres reliever Robbie Erlin.

Jed Lowrie hit a two-run homer in the eighth off Phil Hughes, giving the A's five homers for the game totaling 2,018 feet.

The A's final two runs in the ninth were scored against Padres infielder Cory Spangenberg, who made his second mound appearance of the season.

Right-hander Frankie Montas allowed one run on five hits and three walks with six strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings to run his record to 4-1 for the A's.

Lucchesi, who was making his first start since going on the disabled list May 15 with a glute strain, fell to 3-3 after giving up four runs on three hits, two walks and a hit batter in just 1 2/3 innings.

Lucchesi's problems began when he hit Olson with a pitch to open the second. He then walked Stephen Piscotty ahead of Barreto's homer. Barreto was 1-for-14 before driving the ball 424 feet into the A's second-level bullpen in left-center. Phegley followed with a 374-foot line drive off the façade of the second balcony of the Western Metal Supply Co. building down the line in left.

Canha opened the third inning with a 432-foot blast for his ninth homer, and Olson followed by pulling his 15th homer 406 feet into the right field stands.

Phegley made it 7-0 later in the third with a sacrifice fly, and Olson had a RBI single in the seventh before Lowrie's 382-foot homer to right in the eighth.

Spangenberg drove in the Padres' first run in the third. Christian Villanueva hit his 16th homer -- and first since May 31 -- to open a three-run Padres' ninth.
