The walk-off win was the Padres' second of the season and extended the strange streak of Marlins starting pitcher Jose Urena. Miami has lost in all 12 of Urena's starts this season and have lost a franchise-record 14 straight games when Urena starts dating back to last season.

The Marlins went into the bottom of the ninth leading 2-1 on Starlin Castro's two-run homer off Padres starter Clayton Richard in the fourth inning.

Marlins closer Brad Ziegler opened the ninth by walking Franmil Reyes, who had homered earlier off Urena for San Diego's first run.

Matt Szczur ran for Reyes and, after Raffy Lopez flied out, advanced to third on Freddy Galvis's opposite-field double into the left field corner. Ziegler then intentionally walked Manuel Margot to bring up Renfroe with the bases-loaded.

The outfielder topped Ziegler's 0-1 offering up the third base line. Even though he was playing in, Rojas had no play on the swift Szczur at the plate. But his throw to first was behind Renfroe as he reached the bag and ricocheted off the glove of first baseman Justin Bour, allowing Galvis to score the game-winning run.

Left-hander Matt Strahm (1-2), who worked two perfect innings in relief of Richard, got credit for the win. Ziegler (0-5) took the loss.

Richard retired the first 10 Marlins he faced before J.T. Realmuto singled with one out in the fourth. Castro then worked his way to a full count before driving a fastball 423 feet into the stands in left-center to end the scoreless tie.

Richard went seven innings, allowing the two runs on four hits, a walk and a hit batter with five strikeouts. Richard has a 2.97 ERA over his last five starts while going seven or more innings in four of the five games. The Marlins were retired in order in seven of the game's nine innings.

The Padres got one of the runs back in the bottom of the fourth when the 6-foot-5, 275-pound Reyes homered in a third straight game. The right-handed Reyes went to the extreme opposite field, bouncing a full-count pitch from Urena off the right field foul pole.

Urena worked six innings, giving up the one run on three hits and two walks with six strikeouts.
