NEW YORK -- Five New York Mets pitchers combined for 8 2/3 innings of one-run relief after right-hander Bartolo Colon departed with a thumb injury Tuesday night, and Asdrubal Cabrera and Yoenis Cespedes each hit solo homers as the Mets edged the Kansas City Royals 2-1 in a rematch of the 2015 World Series at Citi Field.

The piecemeal win stopped a three-game losing streak for the Mets (37-32). The Royals (38-32) had a three-game winning streak snapped.

Hansel Robles, who entered after Colon was hit on the right thumb by a line drive off the bat of Royals leadoff batter Whit Merrifield, earned the win after allowing one run on five hits and one walk while striking out six over a career-high 3 2/3 innings.

X-rays on Colon's thumb were negative. The 43-year-old, who had never recorded fewer than two outs in his first 481 big league starts dating back to 1997, is day-to-day.

Erik Goeddel followed with two scoreless innings, which tied his longest outing as a major leaguer, before Jerry Blevins, Addison Reed and Jeurys Familia (23rd save) each threw an inning apiece.

The homers by Cabrera (first inning) and Cespedes (fourth inning) provided the Mets a margin for error they needed in the fifth, when the Royals mounted their biggest threat. A tiring Robles allowed a leadoff single to Paulo Orlando before walking Cheslor Cuthbert and giving up an RBI single to Brett Eibner.

Kendrys Morales, pinch-hitting for starting pitcher Ian Kennedy, flew out to the wall in right field against Goeddel, who then struck out Merrifield and induced Alcides Escobar to hit into a fielder's choice.

Escobar and Orlando had two hits apiece for the Royals.

Kennedy took the loss after allowing the two runs on four hits and one walk while striking out two over four innings. It was the second-shortest start of the season for Kennedy.
