SAN FRANCISCO -- First baseman Paul Goldschmidt's two-run home run in the first inning gave Arizona a lead it never relinquished, and right-hander Jeremy Hellickson limited San Francisco to one run in 6 2/3 innings as the Diamondbacks earned a series win over the Giants with a 5-1 victory Sunday afternoon.

Center fielder A.J. Pollock contributed three singles and a rally-killing diving catch to the win, which capped a 4-3 week that culminated in the Diamondbacks' first winning road series since last June.

Arizona (7-6) won three of four against the Giants, marking its second series win of the season and first in San Francisco since last April.

The Giants (4-10) joined the Milwaukee Brewers and the Miami Marlins as baseball's first 10-game losers. San Francisco, the defending World Series champion, snapped an eight-game losing streak Saturday.

Goldschmidt's homer was the Diamondbacks' fifth of the series. The high fly into the left field bleachers off Giants starter Tim Hudson followed Pollock's first hit and gave Hellickson a two-run cushion before he took the mound.

The homer was Goldschmidt's fifth of the season, and his two RBIs pushed his season total to 15, which leads the National League.

The home run also was the 12th of Goldschmidt's career against the Giants, his highest total against any team.

Hellickson (1-2) struggled early but got first baseman Buster Posey to ground into an inning-ending double play after the Giants scored one in the first, then used Pollock's defensive gem to escape the second with the 2-1 lead.

With two on and two outs in the second, Hudson lined a shot to center field that appeared destined for a game-tying single. However, Pollock raced in and dived forward to catch the liner at grass level to end the inning.

The Diamondbacks turned three double plays behind Hellickson, who gave up eight hits and one walk. He struck out two in recording his first win for Arizona.

Diamondbacks starters pitched into the seventh inning in all seven games on the trip.

Right-hander Brad Ziegler got the final out of the seventh inning in relief of Hellickson before pitching a 1-2-3 eighth, and closer Addison Reed concluded the trip with a perfect ninth.

Both teams finished with eight hits.

The Diamondbacks put some distance between themselves and the Giants with a three-run third that featured a two-run single by shortstop Chris Owings.

Hudson thought he escaped a two-on, two-out threat unscathed when Arizona third baseman Aaron Hill took a letter-high fastball on a 3-2 pitch. However, home plate umpire Dan Iassogna called it a ball, which produced a walk and loaded the bases.

Clearly bothered by the call, Hudson fell behind Arizona catcher Jordan Pacheco 2-0 and then hit him in the back to force in a run. Owings then smacked an 0-2 pitch into right field for two more runs and a 5-1 lead.

Owings joined Pollock with three hits for the Diamondbacks, who also got the first major league hit from Cuban prospect Yasmani Tomas.

Called up from the minors Wednesday but used exclusively as a pinch hitter, Tomas produced his first hit in four big-league at-bats when he sliced a single to right field in a hit-and-run situation in the ninth inning.

Hudson (0-2) left after five innings. He surrendered five runs on six hits, walked two and struck out six.

The Giants' first-inning run was the first they scored in support of Hudson in his three starts.

Right fielder Nori Aoki had a double and a triple for San Francisco. Brandon Belt, starting in left field for the first time, and shortstop Brandon Crawford also had two hits apiece for the Giants.

NOTES: Both teams have Monday off. The day off will be the Giants' first of the season ... The Diamondbacks open an eight-game homestand Tuesday with their first interleague seri
