Nationals 11, Padres 1:
Bryce Harper had a career-high four RBIs before exiting and Stephen Strasburg struck out 11 in seven shutout innings as host Washington racked up a season-best 17 hits while routing San Diego.

Harper departed after four innings due to an apparent hand injury suffered while sliding head first on a three-run triple in the third. Strasburg (2-2) gave up seven hits and two walks while striking out 10 or more for the third time this season and the 14th time in his career.

Anthony Rendon had a career-best four hits for the Nationals while San Diego’s Everth Cabrera had three hits against Strasburg. Padres starter Robbie Erlin (1-3) allowed eight runs and 13 hits in 5 1/3 innings.

Ian Desmond had a run-scoring double in the first inning and Harper drove in another on an infield single to give Washington a 2-0 lead. Harper came up with the bases loaded in the third and drilled a pitch from Erlin off the base of the wall in right-center field to clear the bases and later scored on a single to center by Jose Lobaton.

A run-scoring double by Adam LaRoche in the sixth boosted the lead to 7-0. Rendon capped his big night with a two-run double to right in the seventh and Nick Hundley delivered a run-scoring single to right in the eighth to get the Padres on the board.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
