Mariners 6, Yankees 3: Mike Zunino had a career-best four hits and Robinson Cano went 1-for-5 in his return to Yankee Stadium as visiting Seattle defeated New York.

Cano, 2ho was booed vociferously in each of his at-bats, contributed an RBI groundout in the fifth and singled and scored in the seventh. Corey Hart added a two-run double and the Mariners collected a season-best 15 hits while winning the opener of a three-game series.

Chris Young (1-0) gave up two runs (one earned) and three hits in 5 2/3 innings for his first major-league victory since Sept. 2, 2012 when he was with the New York Mets. Yankees starter CC Sabathia (3-3) allowed four runs and nine hits in five innings to drop to 12-5 all-time against Seattle.

Mark Teixeira homered in the second and New York added an unearned run in the third before Seattle bounced back with four runs in the fifth. Cano grounded out with the bases loaded to get the first run across, Hart followed with a two-run double and Justin Smoak capped the uprising with a run-scoring single to right.

Dustin Ackley and Zunino delivered run-scoring singles in the seventh as Seattle increased its lead to four. The Yankees pushed across a run in the ninth on Brett Gardner’s infield single before Fernando Rodney struck out Carlos Beltran with runners at first and third to end it in a non-save situation.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Yankees CF Jacoby Ellsbury (hand) was held out of the starting lineup. … Seattle RHP Hisashi Iwakuma (finger) threw a bullpen session and could be activated to start Friday against the Houston Astros. … Mariners first-base coach Andy Van Slyke was ejected in the eighth inning for contesting a check-swing on which Cano was called out on strikes.
