Mariners 5, Astros 3: Kyle Seager hit a three-run homer with one out in the bottom of the ninth as host Seattle posted a dramatic victory over Houston to snap an eight-game losing streak.

Seager also hit a two-run homer in the seventh after not recording one in Seattle’s first 20 games. He belted a pitch off Josh Fields (0-1) well into the right-field stands as the Mariners ended a six-game skid against the Astros.

Fernando Rodney (1-1) worked out of a jam in the top of the ninth while recording the victory. Fields allowed singles to Robinson Cano and Corey Hart to start the bottom of the ninth and struck out Justin Smoak before allowing the blast to Seager.

Jason Castro had a two-run double in the third inning and Chris Carter homered in the seventh as Houston took a 3-0 lead. Smoak singled with one out in the bottom of the seventh and Seager followed with a shot to right off Astros starter Jarred Cosart, who gave up two runs and four hits in 6 2/3 innings.

Mariners starter Chris Young issued walks to Matt Dominguez and Dexter Fowler in the third and Castro laced his two-bagger to right to score both runners. Carter added his blast into the left-field seats before Seager took over with his two mammoth blasts.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Young struck out six in seven innings and gave up three runs, four hits and five walks. … Carter homered for the second straight day and has hit nine of his 50 career homers against Seattle. … Houston pitchers stuck out 35 batters in the series.
