Phillies 3, Pirates 1: Jonathan Pettibone won for the first time in seven weeks as visiting Philadelphia snapped Pittsburgh’s nine-game winning streak.

Pettibone (4-3) was pulled after yielding a solo home run by Garrett Jones with two outs in the sixth. Five relievers held the Pirates scoreless before Jonathan Papelbon worked a perfect ninth for his 16th save in 20 opportunities.

Pirates starter Brandon Cumpton (0-1) sailed through the first five innings before the Phillies scored three times in the sixth. After Ryan Howard broke an 0-for-22 slump with an RBI single, Domonic Brown followed with a sacrifice fly and Howard came around to score on Delmon Young’s double into the left-center field gap.

Pettibone allowed three hits while throwing 102 pitches in 5 2/3 innings to win for the first time since May 14, a span of nine starts. Howard and Michael Young had two hits apiece for Philadelphia, which improved to 4-4 on its 10-game road trip.

Cumpton was charged with three runs over 5 2/3 frames in his third career start for the Pirates, who were looking to match their longest winning streak since 2004. Pittsburgh loaded the bases with two outs in the eighth before Justin De Fratus struck out Jordy Mercer to end the threat.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Pirates LHP Jeff Locke was pushed back from Tuesday's scheduled start after he warmed up in the bullpen during Sunday’s 14-inning win over Milwaukee.
