Phillies 6, Mets 2: Cole Hamels pitched seven strong innings and helped himself with a two-run single to lift visiting Philadelphia.

Carlos Ruiz homered and Jimmy Rollins added an RBI double to give the Phillies their eighth win in 11 games heading into Thursday's finale of the four-game series.

Hamels (6-13) struck out eight and allowed two runs and nine hits to remain undefeated in his last six starts and improve to 7-12 lifetime against New York. B.J. Rosenberg worked a scoreless eighth and Jake Diekman finished up in the ninth.

Daisuke Matsuzaka (0-2) had an erratic performance in his second start of the year, giving up four runs on six hits and four walks in 4 1/3 innings. He left after plunking John Mayberry Jr. with the bases loaded, and Robert Carson came in to strike out Darin Ruf before Hamels slashed a single to left to plate two runs for a 4-1 lead.

Ike Davis had an RBI single in the third to open the scoring and Andrew Brown delivered a run-scoring double in the seventh for the Mets, who fell to 1-6 in their last seven games.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Matsuzaka became the first Mets pitcher to throw 110 pitches and fail to get through five innings since LHP Oliver Perez in September 2007. ... Ruiz is 17-for-38 with three homers and seven RBIs over his last 10 games. ... Mets LF Eric Young Jr. swiped his 30th and 31st bases to become one of five father-son tandems to each record 30 steals in a season.
