Athletics 10, Angels 6: Yoenis Cespedes collected three hits with four RBIs and Oakland rallied from an early five-run deficit to defeat visiting Los Angeles for the third straight game.

The Athletics trailed 6-5 before Cespedes capped a five-run rally in the sixth with a run-scoring double off Kevin Jepsen. Angels reliever J.C. Gutierrez (0-2) began the inning by allowing Stephen Vogt’s RBI double and run-scoring hits by Eric Sogard and Jed Lowrie.

The Angels sent 10 batters to the plate in the first and scored four times against Jarrod Parker, who surrendered six runs with seven walks over five innings. Jesse Chavez (2-2) earned the win with two scoreless innings for Oakland, which moved a season-high six games ahead of struggling Texas in the American League West.

Angels starter Tommy Hanson cruised through the first two innings before walking three batters and allowing three runs in the third. Hanson was pulled after giving up two more runs in the fifth as Coco Crisp scored on a fielder’s choice and Cespedes singled in a run with two outs.

Erick Aybar had two extra-base hits, including an RBI double in the sixth. The loss dropped the Angels (48-55) seven games below .500 and 13 games out of first place.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Angels placed 1B/DH Albert Pujols on the 15-day disabled list with a partial tear of the left plantar fascia and recalled OF Kole Calhoun from Triple-A Salt Lake. Manager Mike Scioscia said that Pujols will be out for “a significant amount of time”. … Angels LF Josh Hamilton went 0-for-5 with three strikeouts and went 3-for-19 during the four-game series. … Sogard had three hits and two RBIs for Oakland, which has won 23 of its last 29 home games.
