Tigers 2, Rangers 1:
Miguel Cabrera collected three hits with an RBI double and scored a run as visiting Detroit snapped Texas' three-game win streak.

Alex Avila had a sacrifice fly and Rick Porcello (2-2) allowed one run and five hits in 5 2/3 innings. Three relievers bridged the gap to closer Jose Valverde, who worked around a one-out walk for his fourth save.

Geovany Soto homered for the second straight game for the Rangers, who lost for only the second time in nine games. Texas had amassed 51 runs in its previous eight contests.

Rangers rookie Nick Tepesch (3-4) yielded two runs and six hits and stranded eight runners in his five-inning stint. He pitched in and out of trouble before giving up two runs in the fifth.

Cabrera doubled home Andy Dirks for his major league-leading 42nd RBI and scored on Avila's sacrifice fly. Soto cut the deficit in half when he hammered a pitch from Porcello down the left-field line in the bottom of the inning.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Rangers CF Leonys Martin threw a bullet to Soto on the fly to nail Dirks at the plate in the third inning. ... Cabrera is batting .509 with runners in scoring position and his 62 hits are the most by a Tigers player through 40 games since George Kell had 64 in 1950. ... Rangers 2B Ian Kinsler was scratched from the lineup Friday due to bruised ribs but came on as a pinch runner in the ninth. He has been battling soreness in the area and aggravated the injury while sliding into third base Thursday.
