Royals 6, White Sox 5 (10): Alex Gordon singled beyond the grasp of Chicago right fielder Alex Rios with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning as host Kansas City notched a dramatic walk-off victory.

Lorenzo Cain singled to start the 10th and two Royals walked against Brian Omogrosso (0-1) before Gordon hit a sharp fly ball that Rios was unable to corral while moving to his right as Kansas City recorded its 11th comeback win.

The Royals were one strike away from losing in the ninth when Billy Butler drilled a tying two-run double into the gap in right-center off White Sox closer Addison Reed. Greg Holland (1-1) pitched a scoreless top of the 10th for Kansas City.

Kansas City tallied three times in the fifth, including run-scoring singles from Miguel Tejada and Alcides Escobar, to take a 3-1 lead. Chicago struck for four runs in the seventh, with the tallies coming on Alejandro De Aza’s two-run double, a wild pitch by Aaron Crow and Rios’ solo homer for a 5-3 advantage.

Royals starter Wade Davis allowed one run and five hits over six innings. Chicago’s Jose Quintana allowed three runs and six hits in five-plus innings.

GAME NOTEBOOK: OF Dewayne Wise had three of Chicago’s 10 hits. … Royals DH Butler was 1-for-17 against the White Sox this season before his game-tying double in the ninth. … Chicago RHP Jake Peavy (back) has been scratched from Monday’s start in the series finale and will be replaced by LHP Chris Sale.
