Red Sox 6, Athletics 5:
David Ortiz and Daniel Nava both had two hits and an RBI and Stephen Drew ripped a key two-run triple as host Boston held on to win the rubber game.

Mike Napoli added to his major league-leading RBI total with a run-scoring double and Dustin Pedroia had two hits and scored a run for the Red Sox. Starter Jon Lester (4-0) worked around six hits and six walks to allow three runs in 5 2/3 innings.

Brett Anderson (1-4) continued his struggles by giving up six runs on eight hits in four-plus frames for Oakland. The left-hander, who exited his last start after one inning with an ankle injury, has a 14.35 ERA in his last three outings.

Chris Young had two home runs for the Athletics, including a three-run shot to start the scoring in the fourth. Boston came right back in the bottom half with Napoli's RBI double and Drew's game-tying triple into the corner in right.

The first six Red Sox batters reached in the fifth as the hosts scored three more, capped by Nava's run-scoring single to make it 6-3. Josh Donaldson knocked in a run with a base hit in the seventh and Young homered again in the eighth to cut Oakland's deficit to 6-5, but Boston closer Andrew Bailey struck out the side in a perfect ninth for his fifth save.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Lester's six walks were one shy of tying a career high. ... Boston RF Shane Victorino was replaced in the seventh inning after aggravating a back injury that caused him to miss two games last weekend. ... Former Red Sox infielder Jed Lowrie went 3-for-5 to raise his average to .366, but struck out to end the game.
