Indians 6, Angels 2: Justin Masterson continued his mastery of Los Angeles with six shutout innings and Brent Lillibridge homered and scored twice as visiting Cleveland sent the reeling Angels to their fifth loss in six games.

Masterson (9-10) improved to 3-0 with a 1.35 ERA in seven starts against the Angels. He yielded six hits, walked three and struck out four.

Albert Pujols hit a two-run homer in the eighth inning for Los Angeles, which fell 2 1/2 games behind Baltimore for the final American League wild card spot. The Angels are 3-9 in August and 12-18 since the All-Star break.

The Angels' C.J. Wilson (9-9) is 0-5 in his last nine starts and hasn't won since June 26. He allowed three runs (two earned), walked one and struck out five in 6 2/3 innings, and left after trying to catch Lou Marson's line drive with his bare hand. He did not appear to be injured, though.

Jason Donald and Asdrubal Cabrera delivered back-to-back RBI singles in the third inning for the Indians, who won for only the fourth time in their last 17 games in the opener of their nine-game West Coast swing.

Lillibridge went deep for the second time in three games when he drove a low 1-1 fastball into the rocks beyond the left-center field fence in the fourth.

The Angels put two runners on for the first time when Mark Trumbo and Alberto Callaspo singled to lead off the seventh and chase Masterson. Joe Smith came on and got Howie Kendrick to fly out before striking out Erick Aybar and Chris Iannetta.

Pujols' 25th homer of the season - and 470th of his career - ended reliever Vinnie Pestano's scoreless innings streak at 21.

The Indians added three runs in the ninth when Marson walked with the bases loaded, pinch hitter Jason Kipnis hit a sacrifice fly and Casey Kotchman scored on a wild pitch by Jason Isringhausen.

Cleveland's Chris Perez struck out the side in the ninth - including Mike Trout to end the game - for his 32nd save in 36 chances after Esmil Rogers yielded two singles to begin the inning.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Trout went 1-for-3 with two walks and is 2-for-11 in his last three games. He is hitting .340 and leads the AL batting race by 17 points over Detroit's Miguel Cabrera. ...
