Indians 9, Mariners 8: Jason Donald’s seventh-inning RBI single completed the Indians’ rally from a seven-run deficit as Cleveland won for the 11th time in 13 games at Safeco Field.

Seattle built an 8-1 lead through four, but the Indians tied it with a seven-run fifth featuring catcher Carlos Santana’s three-run blast. It was the ninth straight game in which Cleveland homered, tying the second-longest season-opening streak in team history.

Cleveland starter Justin Masterson entered with a 2.45 ERA in five career starts against Seattle, but lasted just 3 2/3 innings. Rafael Perez (1-0) got the win after throwing an inning of scoreless relief in the sixth, and Chris Perez worked out of a ninth-inning jam for his third save.

Mariners designated hitter John Jaso belted a towering two-run homer and also drove in a run when he got hit by a pitch. Justin Smoak went 4 for 5, while Ichiro Suzuki drove in two runs.

The Indians chased Mariners starter Kevin Millwood in their big fifth inning. Charlie Furbush (0-1) took the loss after allowing the go-ahead run to reach in the seventh.

Game Notebook:
The Indians played without All-Star shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera, who returned to his native Venezuela after a death in his family … The Indians have scored eight or more runs in each of their first four road games for the time in the franchise’s 111-year history. They had never done in the first three road games until this year.
