Rene Tosoni hit a go-ahead homer in the 10th inning and the visiting Minnesota Twins ended an eight-game losing streak to the Cleveland Indians with a 6-4 victory on Sunday.

Trevor Plouffe hit a game-tying homer in the sixth for the Twins, who won for just the third time in 22 games. Minnesota (61-98) needs to win two of its final three games to avoid its first 100-loss season since 1982.

Tosoni led off the 10th belting a 1-1 fastball from Tony Sipp (6-3) to right for his fourth home run of the season. Chris Parmelee’s RBI single to right made it 6-4.

Kyle Waldrop (1-0) threw a perfect ninth for his first career win while Joe Nathan worked the 10th for his 14th save in 17 chances.

Shelley Duncan hit a two-run homer for the Indians, who were seeking to win nine straight over Minnesota for the first time since 1959.

Duncan, who drove in six runs in a doubleheader sweep Saturday, gave Cleveland a 4-2 lead when he drilled an 0-1 fastball from rookie Liam Hendriks into the first row of the left field seats in the third. The 22-year-old Hendrik was making just the third start of his career.

The Indians gave their fans something to cheer about late in the game, moving Jim Thome to third base for one pitch. Thome, who hadn't played at the hot corner since 1996, gave the fans a wave as he left the field to a warm ovation.
