The Houston Astros jumped all over Barry Zito in the early innings and rode it to a 6-3 win over the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday.

Zito came into the game winless in his last six starts, despite pitching well over that span. That wasn’t the case against the Astros, who knocked the resurgent left-hander out of the game after four innings.

After Carlos Lee’s RBI single in the first inning, second baseman Jeff Keppinger had a bases-loaded double in the second and was thrown out at third trying to stretch it into a triple. But the damage was done as Houston led 4-0.

Houston, which broke a five-game losing streak, added another run on a Brett Myers single in the fourth and then scored one more in the sixth off reliever Guillermo Mota on a Chris Johnson RBI double.

The beneficiary of the scoring binge was Myers (5-5) as the right-hander tossed seven innings of six-hit ball. He allowed two earned runs with three walks and four strikeouts.

Matt Lindstrom came on for his 16th save without incident.

Zito (7-4) allowed seven hits and five earned runs in his four-inning effort with two walks and four strikeouts.

Edgar Renteria led the Giants with three hits and Andres Torres continues to impress with two hits with a run and a RBI.
