Edwin Encarnacion's tiebreaking solo home run in the eighth inning was the difference as the Toronto Blue Jays beat the San Francisco Giants 3-2 on Friday night.

Encarnacion, who came into the game mired in a 2-for-26 slump, deposited a Barry Zito offering over the left-field wall for his eighth homer of the season. The third baseman finished 2-for-2 with a walk and drove in all three runs as the Blue Jays won their second straight game.

Scott Downs (2-5) earned the victory with an inning of scoreless relief, while Kevin Gregg tossed a perfect ninth inning for his 17th save.

Toronto starter Brandon Morrow was sharp, scattering two runs and five hits over six innings. He walked three and struck out four.

Zito (7-3) was the hard-luck loser, going the distance on a four-hitter. He walked one and struck out five as he lost his first decision since May 21.

Pablo Sandoval drove in San Francisco's only two runs on a bases-loaded walk in the first inning and an RBI groundout in the sixth.
