Nelson Cruz tied the game in the eighth inning and won it in the 13th with a walk-off solo homer as the Texas Rangers outlasted the New York Yankees 6-5 Friday.

With Chad Gaudin (0-4) on the mound for his second inning of work, Cruz led off the 13th with a drive drive to deep right, clearing the fence for the win.

Scott Feldman (7-10) worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the top of the 13th to earn the victory, which allowed the Rangers to remain seven games ahead of Oakland in the American League East. The Athletics blanked Boston 5-0.

The Yankees' defeat reduced their lead in the AL East to two games over Tampa Bay, after the Rays edged Toronto 9-8 earlier Friday.

Cruz tied it at 5-5 in the eighth, taking a the first pitch he saw from Joba Chamberlain and parking it deep into the left field seats for his 18th blast of the season.

The Yankees led 4-1 after getting to C.J. Wilson for four runs in the third. Alex Rodriguez had the big blow in the frame, driving a two-run double to right-center to give New York the lead.

Texas got two back on Julio Borbon’s double in the fourth but the Yankees extended it to 5-3 when Mark Teixeira drew a walk with the bases loaded. Borbon made it 5-4 in the bottom of that frame with an RBI groundout.

Wilson, who converted to starting this season and is already 100 innings past his previous career high, has gotten knocked around in each of his last two starts. The left-hander was tagged for four runs on six hits while walking three in just three innings against the Yankees.
