Michael Frolik celebrated his 800th NHL game in fine fashion by scoring once amidst a memorable first couple of shifts as the host Calgary Flames beat the Philadelphia Flyers 3-1 on Tuesday.

Flames goalie David Rittich made 21 saves to backstop his team to a victory that snapped a two-game losing skid. Rittich was strong in a tight clash as he continues an up-and-down performance this season, as he has allowed four or more goals in three of his six outings.

His team rewarded their new No. 1 goalie with enough offense against the Flyers. Frolik, who lost his helmet and was knocked into the Philadelphia bench on his first shift, produced a happier memory in his second turn on the ice by opening the scoring 95 seconds into the affair. He intercepted Travis Konecny's soft clearing attempt just inside the blue line, worked to the right circle and ripped a top-shelf wrist shot past goalie Brian Elliott.

It's just the second time this season the Flames have opened the scoring.

Then Andrew Mangiapane provided the hosts with something that's been missing so far this season, a goal from the bottom two lines, when he doubled the lead at 14:15 of the second period. Mangiapane set up in the high slot and perfectly one-timed the feed from Mark Giordano for his first goal of the season.

Matt Niskanen gave the Flyers life when his first goal of the season put them on the board at 4:58 of the third period and made it a one-goal game. Niskanen, who was acquired via trade from the Washington Capitals in the offseason, cruised into the slot and made no mistake after a setup by Konecny after a delayed penalty call.

However, Elias Lindholm's empty-net goal with 11 seconds remaining, his fourth goal of the season, rounded out the scoring.

Elliott, who played for Calgary in the 2016-17 season, made 35 saves in his first start of the season for the Flyers, who lost in regulation for the first time this season.
