GLENDALE, Ariz. -- New Jersey or Vancouver, it does not seem to matter which coast. Cory Schneider brings his "A" game to Arizona when he comes to town.
Devils goaltender Schneider posted his fourth shutout of the season in a 2-0 victory over the Arizona Coyotes on Saturday at Gila River Arena, and his fourth career victory in five starts against the Coyotes.
"Especially in this building, I've always felt good and played well," said Schneider, who spent five seasons in Vancouver before joining the Devils in 2013.
"There have been years where maybe they were lacking some offense, but this year they have been putting pucks in the net and they've got some dynamic talent and speed. I've just always felt good in this rink."
Left winger Reid Boucher and right winger Kyle Palmieri scored for the Devils (22-19-5), who split a four-game trip.
Schneider was credited with 38 saves and he was helped by a defense that blocked 27 shots, including one by defenseman Jon Merrill on a shot by Arizona left winger Max Domi with about five minutes remaining.
The Devils (22-19-5) also killed five power plays, two in the second period, when Schneider made point-blank saves on center Boyd Gordon, right winger Mikkel Boedker and left winger Jordan Martinook.
"That's kind of how he's played all year," Palmieri said of Schneider. "He's that calming presence in net. We knew how big this game was to get to .500 on the road trip. That's when your big players have to step up, and he surely did."
Arizona (22-17-5) outshot the Devils 38-16 while losing for only the second time in their last 13 games. The Coyotes took 95 shots, including the ones not on goal.
The Coyotes, who won four of their last five, pulled goaltender Anders Lindback with 2:45 remaining but could not score.
"Territorially we dominated the game, but we didn't do enough to win," Arizona coach Dave Tippett said. "Some nights, the little bit of execution is off. Give Schneider a lot of credit. He played very well. But we missed a lot of nets as well."
Boucher scored his first goal of the season less than four minutes into the game and Palmieri got his 18th only 18 seconds into the third.
"That definitely provided a spark," New Jersey coach John Hynes said of Boucher's goal.
Boucher arrived in Phoenix at 6:30 pm Friday after being recalled from AHL Albany to lend scoring punch to a depleted frontline.
"It felt good," Boucher said. "It's a nice touch. It's even better that we got the win."
Right winger Lee Stempniak assisted on both goals for the Devils, who had lost two in a row and five of the last six.
Stempniak, who has 10 goals and 22 assists this year, has 401 career points.
Schneider is 4-0-1 with three goals allowed in five starts against the Coyotes in his career. He beat them twice in two starts last year and twice in his final season in Vancouver in 2012-13
He has 21 career shutouts and was selected to play in his first All-Star game this season
"A couple of guys were in the right place at the right time for me to keep it out of the net," Schneider said.
NOTES: Devils C Mike Cammilleri missed his eighth straight game because of a lower body injury, but coach John Hynes said he expects Cammilleri to play Tuesday against Calgary. Cammilleri has 14 goals and 21 assists. ... Devils LW Reid Boucher had 14 goals and 26 points for Albany and led the league with 116 shots before his recall. He had no points in three previous games with the Devils this season. ... Coyotes D Jarred Tinordi was a healthy scratch Saturday, a day after being acquired from Montreal in a three-team trade. The Coyotes first acquired D Victor Bartley from Nashville in exchange for D Stefan Elliott, then sent Bartley and LW John Scott to the Canadiens for Tinordi and minor league RW Stefan Fournier. Scott was the Coyotes' only All-Star, there through a fan vote, despite playing only 11 games with the Coyotes. ... Tinordi, a first-round pick in the 2010 draft, played in three games with Montreal. "He is a big, young, strong kid who plays hard," Coyotes general manager Don Maloney said. "It's been a difficult year, but we'll try and make it work here." Fournier was assigned to Springfield of the American Hockey League. ... The Coyotes have six players with 10 or more goals. Only Washington (seven) has more. ... Coyotes rookie G Louis Domingue was given a day off after starting the last eight games. Domingue is 7-0-3 with a 2.11 goals against average. He is the first rookie in franchise history to win four straight games.
