Lightning 3, Red Wings 1: Alex Killorn snapped a tie midway through the third period as Tampa Bay posted its league-best 28th home win.

Defenseman Anton Stralman and captain Steven Stamkos also scored while blue-liner Victor Hedman and Ondrej Palat each added two assists for the Lightning, who moved eight points ahead of Detroit for second place in the Atlantic and within two of Montreal for the top spot in the division. Ben Bishop made 30 saves to improve to 4-0-1 in his last five starts.

Tomas Tatar netted a power-play goal for the Red Wings, who lost for the sixth time in eight games. Jimmy Howard stopped 29 shots in his first start in three contests.

Killorn took a pass from Hedman in the slot and fired a wrist shot past Howard with 9:29 remaining in the third for a 2-1 edge. Bishop made a series of saves with Howard pulled for an extra attacker in the final two minutes, including stops on Tatar and Detroit captain Henrik Zetterberg, before Stamkos scored an empty-netter with 28 seconds left to seal the win and reach the 40-goal plateau for the fourth time in his career.

Stralman banged home the rebound of Hedman’s point shot 1:22 into the second period to open the scoring. Tatar replied 5:35 later by stuffing home a loose puck on the goal line while Hedman served a tripping penalty.
