Lightning 4, Senators 2: Tyler Johnson recorded a pair of goals as visiting Tampa Bay rallied to defeat Ottawa for its fifth victory in the last six games.
Defenseman Victor Hedman collected a goal and an assist while Steven Stamkos also tallied for the Lightning, who have gained at least a point in eight of the last nine games against the Senators (6-1-2). Nikita Kucherov added two assists for Tampa Bay and Ben Bishop turned aside 20 shots, improving to 6-0-2 all time against his former team.
Kyle Turris registered a goal and an assist while Mark Stone also scored for Ottawa, which saw its three-game point streak come to an end. Robin Lehner, who has given up four goals in four of his last five outings, made 26 saves as the Senators killed off 8-of-9 power plays.
Turris scored off Clarke MacArthur’s pass from behind the end line 32 seconds into the game and Hedman tied it on a blast 3:48 into the second after a rebound squirted through the slot. Stone answered from the left circle after a pass from Turris at 7:30 before Johnson converted a cross-ice pass from Kucherov on the power play with 3:52 left in the second.
Stamkos circled the net and went through the slot with the puck before beating everyone to the net to bank a shot off Lehner 47 seconds later for a 3-2 lead. Kucherov faked a shot and found Johnson with a pass at the bottom of the right circle and he beat Lehner to add insurance 7:58 into the third period.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Johnson boasts multiple points in four of his last eight contests and Kucherov has collected 16 points in a 12-game span. … Turris, who was 12-5 in the faceoff circle, has eight goals and 20 points – both the most against any team - in 17 career games against the Lightning. … Tampa Bay D Radko Gudas (lower-body injury) missed his third straight game and Lightning D Nikita Nesterov was inserted into the lineup in place of D Mark Barberio.
