Corey Perry netted his team-high 36th goal while Daniel Winnik, defenseman Ben Lovejoy and Mathieu Perreault also scored during the frenzied second period as the Ducks handed Colorado only its second loss in eight games (6-2-0). Captain Ryan Getzlaf was among three players with two assists and Jonas Hiller turned aside 34 shots to help Anaheim climb back into a tie with San Jose atop the Pacific Division.
Jamie McGinn scored a pair of power-play goals and John Mitchell and captain Gabriel Landeskog also tallied for the Avalanche, who remained one point ahead of Chicago for second place in the Central. Semyon Varlamov was chased after giving up five goals on 24 shots and replacement Jean-Sebastien Giguere made eight saves.
McGinn's first goal put the Avalanche ahead 2-1 at 5:21 of the middle session before Palmieri scored on a backhander at 7:47 and cleanup up a rebound shortly thereafter to give the Ducks the lead for good. Goals by Perry and Lovejoy capped a four-goal spree in a span of 4:06 to extend the lead to 5-2.
Colorado stormed back during the wild nine-goal period when McGinn and Landeskog scored 33 seconds apart to draw the Avalanche within 5-4 with 1:19 remaining, but Perreault answered 30 seconds later to send Anaheim into the break with a two-goal cushion.
