Flames 6, Predators 3: Curtis Glencross recorded his second career hat trick and Jiri Hudler added a goal and an assist as host Calgary easily handled Nashville to earn its sixth straight home victory.
Defenseman Mark Giordano and Blake Comeau also tallied, Matt Stajan collected three assists and Miikka Kiprusoff made 17 saves for the Flames, who have scored 27 goals during their home winning streak. Glencross scored all three of his goals in the third period, finishing off the hat trick with an empty-net tally.
Gabriel Bourque scored a power-play goal, Mike Fisher tipped in blue-liner Roman Josi’s blast and David Legwand added a late tally for the Predators. Chris Mason came on in relief of Pekka Rinne and stopped 16 shots in just under 51 minutes.
The Flames scored on their first two shots of the night, taking a 1-0 lead when Giordano wristed the puck just inside the post and making it a two-goal advantage 1:40 later as Comeau finished off a 3-on-2 rush by converting a nice feed from Hudler. Rinne was lifted immediately afterward without recording a save.
Hudler made it 3-0 with a power-play goal at 3:38 of the second before Nashville got on the board with Bourque’s tally less than two minutes later. Glencross sandwiched his first two goals around Fisher’s in the third period, getting a rebound to hit off his arm to make it 4-1 at 1:14 and burying a centering pass from Lee Stempniak to restore the three-goal lead at the 5:32 mark.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Glencross' first career hat trick came against Carolina on Feb. 3, 2010. ... Rinne has been pulled from back-to-back games as he has allowed six goals on 14 shots. He had yielded a total of one tally in his previous three starts. … Glencross has five points (four goals) in two games since missing a pair of contests with an upper-body injury. … The Predators fell to 3-7-1 in their last 11 games.
