Ducks 2, Coyotes 0: Jonas Hiller made 18 saves for his 16th career shutout and captain Ryan Getzlaf recorded a goal and an assist as host Anaheim extended its home winning streak to nine contests by salvaging the finale of its rare three-game series with Phoenix.
Hiller wasn’t really tested until the third period, when he stopped nine shots en route to his first shutout in 11 starts this season. Corey Perry scored in the first period and Getzlaf added an empty-netter for the Ducks, who avenged back-to-back 5-4 shootout losses on the road to the Pacific Division-rival Coyotes.
Jason LaBarbera gave Mike Smith a rare night off, turning aside 22 shots in his first start since Jan. 26 for Phoenix, which has posted one win in its last five road games.
Perry finished a nice passing play with linemates Getzlaf and Bobby Ryan 7:10 into the game, corralling a feed from Ryan while streaking through the slot and sliding the puck around a sprawled LaBarbera. Perry has goals in two consecutive games and seven on the season.
Coyotes defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson hooked Andrew Cogliano during a breakaway 5:17 into the second period, but Cogliano’s penalty shot was stopped by LaBarbera.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Cogliano has notched 20 points in 25 career games against Phoenix but couldn’t beat LaBarbera between the pads on his penalty-shot attempt. … Perry led all players with four shots on goal. … Phoenix, which has been shut out twice this season, finished 0-for-3 on the power play.
