Brad Richards and rookie Carl Hagelin collected a goal and an assist apiece as the New York Rangers skated to a 4-1 victory over the host Florida Panthers on Friday.
Henrik Lundqvist made 27 saves to improve to 7-2-0 in his last nine starts against Florida.
The Rangers also upped their mark to 18-1-1 when scoring first, and that initial goal came just 35 seconds into the contest as captain Ryan Callahan’s pass was deflected in by Hagelin. With the assist, Callahan has recorded at least a point in 17 of his last 18 games.
Richards' 13th tally of the season came at 5:10 of the first period, when he beat Scott Clemmensen with a snap shot. Defenseman Michael Del Zotto rounded out first-period scoring at 15:37 when his point shot was deflected past a helpless Clemmensen.
Jose Theodore replaced the starter after three goals on 14 shots.
Brandon Dubinsky scored his fourth goal of the season to give New York a 4-0 lead at 7:41 of the middle frame. Dubinsky beat Kris Versteeg in a puck battle, cut into the slot and slid the puck past Theodore.
Just 1:47 later, Matt Bradley spoiled Lundqvist’s shutout bid with his second goal of the season for the Panthers.
