Matt Hasselbeck threw for 242 yards and a touchdown and newly acquired Marshawn Lynch scored as the Seattle Seahawks held on for a 23-20 victory over the host Chicago Bears on Sunday.
Mike Williams caught a career-high 10 passes for 123 yards while Justin Forsett and Deon Butler each had touchdowns for the Seahawks (3-2), who avoided starting 0-3 on the road for a third straight season.
Lynch ran for just 44 yards on 17 carries, but his 1-yard touchdown run capped an 11-play, 92-yard drive and gave the Seahawks a 10-point lead with 13:45 left.
Devin Hester's ninth career punt return for a touchdown - an 89-yarder- pulled the Bears (4-2) within 23-20 with 1:54 left, but Seattle was able to run out the clock.
Matt Forte had a touchdown run and Robbie Gould kicked a pair of field goals for the Bears, who were 0-for-12 on third down despite the return of Jay Cutler.
Cutler, who missed last week’s win over Carolina due to a concussion, finished 17 of 39 for 290 yards.
The Seahawks are greatly improved under new head coach Pete Carroll, who spent the bye week helping revamp the roster. Seattle acquired Lynch from Buffalo on Oct. 5 and dealt wide receiver Deion Branch to New England for a fourth-round pick early last week.
