The fabulous freshman duo of T.J. Leaf and Lonzo Ball helped No. 2 UCLA remain unbeaten with a 102-62 victory over visiting UC Santa Barbara on Wednesday night at Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles.

Leaf had 25 points, 10 rebounds and a career-high eight assists for UCLA (11-0), which is off to its best start since beginning the 2006-07 season with 14 wins. Ball had 13 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists.

After the game, Leaf was asked whether he was aware that he and Ball were both flirting with triple-doubles.

"I don't think me and Lonzo really noticed it," he said. "We were just trying to play unselfish basketball. That's just what we do. We like to move the ball, every one of us, and that's what we were doing. We did that really well tonight."

Aaron Holiday had career highs of 20 points and six assists for the Bruins. Bryce Alford scored 15 points and Isaac Hamilton had 13.

Ami Lakoju posted 11 points and 12 rebounds for UC Santa Barbara (1-7). Gabe Vincent scored 10 points.

The Gauchos took a 12-11 lead on a jumper by Eric Childress, but it didn't last long. The Bruins responded with a 17-0 run to go up 28-12 on a layup by Leaf. They extended the lead to 20 on a layup by Hamilton, led by as many as 25 later in the half and carried a 54-30 advantage into the break.

Leaf was sensational in the first period, accounting for 17 points, nine rebounds and six assists.

"He is so versatile on both ends of the court," UC Santa Barbara coach Bob Williams said. "He can step out and shoot the three, go inside or pass in the post. He is very difficult to defend."

The Bruins shot nearly 54 percent and made eight 3-pointers while holding the Gauchos to 38.7 percent shooting and 3 of 11 from beyond the arc in the opening half.

UCLA would not relent in the second half. The Bruins took a 60-32 lead on a jumper by Alford, went up by 30 on a dunk by Leaf and continued to pull away.

"They play so fast but under such great control," Williams said. "You have to give them credit because they are so unselfish and they really feed off each other."

UCLA shot 54.9 percent and made 11 of 34 from 3-point range. The Bruins recorded 27 assists on 39 baskets and committed only eight turnovers.

UC Santa Barbara shot 30.1 percent and made 5 of 20 from long distance.
