Florida used a late second-half run to forge the game's biggest lead and held on for a 72-70 victory over Oklahoma State in the Orange Bowl Classic in Sunrise, Fla., on Saturday.
With the game tied at 51, the Gators used a 13-3 spurt to surge ahead 64-54 with 6:37 remaining. It was just enough as the Cowboys rallied, but never completed the comeback.
Forward Dorian Finney-Smith, who started the deciding run with a 3-pointer, finished with 16 points to lead Florida (7-3). Forward Devin Robinson added 13 and guard Chris Chiozza 11.
Point guard Jawun Evans recorded 17 points, seven rebounds and five assists for the Cowboys (7-4). Guard Jeff Newberry and forward Leyton Hammonds each added 14 points.
Florida led 35-34 at the half after trailing by as much as eight in an otherwise tight first 20 minutes. Robinson, Finney-Smith and guard KeVaughn Allen produced the bulk of the scoring for the Gators. Robinson had eight points, while Finney-Smith and Allen added seven apiece.
Hammonds led all scorers in the half with nine points, pumping in two of the team's five 3-pointers.
