No. 14 Maryland 59, No. 4 Wisconsin 53: Dez Wells scored 26 points as the host Terrapins ended the Badgers’ 10-game winning streak and kept their faint hopes alive for claiming a share of the Big Ten title.

Wells added seven rebounds and four assists for Maryland (23-5, 11-4 Big Ten), which improved to 9-0 in games decided by six points or fewer and moved within two games of Wisconsin with three to play. Melo Trimble chipped in 16 points as the Terrapins improved to 17-1 at home and kept the Badgers from clinching a share of their 18th regular-season conference title.

Frank Kaminsky led the way with 18 points for Wisconsin (25-3, 13-2), which could not overcome 38.5 percent shooting from the field or a 6-of-22 effort from beyond the arc. Sam Dekker tallied 14 points and nine boards and Nigel Hayes finished with 10 points as the Badgers were unable to match their best 28-game start in school history or match their 74-year school record of 11 consecutive Big Ten wins.

Maryland (54.2 percent) shot nearly twice as well as Wisconsin (29.6) in the opening 20 minutes, using 12 of Wells’ 14 first-half points during a 19-5 run to build an 11-point advantage. The Badgers, who went 1-for-11 beyond the arc prior to intermission, quickly found their range after the break, connecting on seven consecutive field goals before nailing four straight triples – two by Dekker – to tie it at 47-47 with 6:43 left.

Wells single-handily kept Wisconsin at bay, however, hitting four straight free throws before throwing home a powerful one-handed dunk following a free throw from Kaminsky to give Maryland a 53-48 edge with just over four minutes remaining. The Badgers rallied within three points three times down the stretch, but Trimble had an answer each time, scoring the Terrapins’ final six points on two layups and a pair of foul shots.
