Mavericks 109, Thunder 86: Shawn Marion scored 19 points and Vince Carter added 18 off the bench as visiting Dallas crushed Oklahoma City.
Dirk Nowitzki recorded 17 points for the Mavericks, who moved a half-game in front of idle Memphis and into sole possession of seventh place in the Western Conference. Jose Calderon contributed 16 points and seven assists while knocking down four of Dallas’ 13 3-pointers.
Kevin Durant scored 30 points and Serge Ibaka added 19 as the Thunder fell for the third time in five games to drop two back of San Antonio for the top spot in the West. Reggie Jackson scored 13 for Oklahoma City, which sat Russell Westbrook (knee) on the first of a back-to-back set as a precautionary measure.
The Mavericks closed the second quarter with a 9-2 spurt to take a 59-48 lead into the break and got back-to-back 3-pointers from Nowitzki and Calderon to start the third, stretching it out to a 17-point gap. Carter’s 3-pointer with 2:16 left in the period pushed the lead to 20 points and Dallas went into the fourth quarter up 91-70.
Carter hit two more from beyond the arc in the first two minutes of the fourth to spread it out to 97-75 and the Mavericks were never threatened down the stretch. Nowitzki’s jumper put Dallas up 101-75 with 7:01 left and both teams emptied the benches less than a minute later.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Westbrook is expected to be back in the lineup when the Thunder visit the Chicago Bulls on Monday. … Oklahoma City shot 36.7 percent from the field and managed only 22 points in the paint. … The blowout allowed G Mustafa Shakur to make his season debut for the Thunder, appearing in his first NBA game since he was with Washington in the 2010-11 season.
