Hawks 105, Mavericks 101: Josh Smith scored 10 of his 26 points in the fourth quarter and added 13 rebounds, helping Atlanta hold on to snap its recent road funk.
Al Horford finished with 21 points and 10 rebounds, Jeff Teague scored 20 and Devin Harris chipped in 15 for the Hawks, who were just 1-8 in their past nine road affairs.
Dirk Nowitzki scored 24 points to lead the Mavericks. O.J. Mayo had 19 points and Darren Collison added 14 points and 10 assists.
Atlanta stormed to an eight-point lead at the end of the first quarter, but things were tight the rest of the way. Dallas fought back, scoring 10 straight points spanning the third and fourth quarters to grab an 84-82 advantage on Jae Crowder’s jumper.
The lead exchanged hands until Horford’s layup with 2:41 remaining put Atlanta up 94-92, and he added a jumper on the next possession. Nowitzki pulled the Mavericks within two points on two occasions, but the Hawks made six free throws down the stretch to keep them at bay.
