Jazz 83, Wizards 76: Al Jefferson had 21 points and 13 rebounds and Gordon Hayward added 15 points as visiting Utah kept Washington winless.
Mo Williams chipped in 12 points for the Jazz, who battled back from a 13-point first-quarter deficit to send the Wizards to their eighth consecutive loss, matching the franchise record for its worst start set last season.
Jordan Crawford scored 20 points, Trevor Ariza added 16 and Emeka Okafor grabbed 14 rebounds for Washington.
The Wizards were in contention for their first win when Crawford’s basket pulled them within 72-69 with 6:16 remaining. But Washington went more than four minutes without scoring and Paul Millsap made two baskets during an 8-0 run that pushed Utah’s lead to 80-69. Washington missed 15 of its first 17 final-quarter shots before making two in the final 20.2 seconds.
Washington scored the first 11 points of the game and led 15-2 midway through the opening quarter. But Utah rallied to take its first lead two minutes into the second. The Wizards led 40-38 at halftime.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Jazz improved to 2-6 on the road. … Washington matched a season low for points and shot just 36.5 percent. … Utah also shot poorly at 37.8 percent but had a 60-44 rebounding edge and collected 26 offensive boards.
