Twins 5, Orioles 2: Kurt Suzuki went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and Phil Hughes worked 6 1/3 solid frames as Minnesota took the rubber match of a three-game set from visiting Baltimore.

Trevor Plouffe doubled in a pair and Brian Dozier scored twice for the Twins, who lost Joe Mauer to lower back spasms in the third inning. Hughes (3-1) allowed two runs on six hits and three relievers bridged the gap to Glen Perkins, who worked the ninth for his seventh save.

Nelson Cruz belted his team-leading ninth home run and Manny Machado had two hits for the Orioles, who fell to 8-8 on the road. Miguel Gonzalez (1-3) struck out seven but lasted only 4 2/3 innings and was charged with three run on six hits and four walks.

Pedro Florimon and Dozier scored on Plouffe’s two-out double to the corner in left in the third to put Minnesota in front. Gonzalez walked the bases loaded with two outs in the fifth before walking Suzuki to force in run and end his afternoon.

Baltimore got two runs back on one swing in the sixth when Cruz drove a 1-0 cutter off the facing of the third deck in left. Cruz could not make the play on Suzuki’s deep fly to left in the seventh that scored two, the second confirmed after replay, to make it a three-run gap.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Mauer was replaced at first base by Chris Colabello while Chris Hermann came off the bench to take Colabello’s spot in right. … Baltimore RF Nick Markakis went 1-for-5 to extend his hitting streak to 12 straight games. … The Orioles continue their six-game road trip at Tampa Bay on Tuesday while the Twins hit the road for a four-game set at Cleveland beginning Monday.
