Cubs 10, Brewers 0: Alfonso Soriano staked Chicago to an early lead with a three-run homer and Ryan Dempster won for the first time in 18 starts as the Cubs snapped an 11-game road losing streak.
Dempster (1-3) had a perfect game through five innings and allowed three hits with no walks in seven innings to win for the first time since Aug. 11, 2011, a span of 18 starts.
Soriano gave the Cubs a 3-0 lead in the first inning with his ninth home run off Yovani Gallardo (4-5), who gave up five runs while striking out 10 over six frames.
Bryan LaHair belted his 11th home run in the fourth inning before the Cubs extended their lead to 5-0 on David DeJesus’ sacrifice fly in the sixth.
Chicago added three more runs in the eighth inning, when it sent nine batters to the plate against Milwaukee relievers Manny Parra and Tim Dillard.
Dempster improved to 16-6 lifetime against the Brewers, who were held to five hits. His winless streak was the longest by a Cub since Danny Jackson went 20 in a row from 1991-92.
Chicago, which scored in double digits for the only the second time this season, won for the second time in their last 12 games against the Brewers. Jeff Baker capped the Cubs' offensive outburst with a two-run homer in the ninth.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Chicago’s road skid was its longest since dropping 11 straight away from home from June 18-29, 1954. …Brewers LF Ryan Braun went 1-for-4 after missing the last two games with injuries to his right Achilles tendon and right hip. …Gallardo had limited the Cubs to one run or less in six of his last seven matchups. ...Brewers 3B Aramis Ramirez (quad) missed his second straight game Tuesday, but he’s expected to avoid the disabled list. …Chicago won despite striking out 14 times.
