Royals 8, Indians 2: Billy Butler homered twice and Alex Gordon added a three-run homer and Luke Hochevar pitched 6 1/3 strong innings as Kansas City ended a 12-game losing streak.
Gordon put away Kansas City's first victory since April 10 with a ninth-inning three-run homer to center off Jairo Asencio, turning a 4-2 lead into an eventual 8-2 advantage.
Butler jumpstarted the Royals, taking Ubaldo Jimenez deep with Chris Getz on board with one out in the first. He followed up Gordon's ninth-inning blast with his second homer of the game, a solo shot to center.
Kansas City scored twice in the fifth. Gordon singled with one out. Jimenez (2-1) got Butler to pop out, but Hosmer homered to left-center to give the Royals a 4-0 advantage.
Hochevar (2-1) worked out of a major jam in the sixth. Cleveland loaded the bases with one out, but Hochevar induced a run-scoring groundout from Travis Hafner and struck out Shelley Duncan to escape with only one run allowed.
Aaron Cunningham brought the Indians within 4-2 in the seventh with a RBI single.
Hochevar pitched 6 1/3 innings, giving up four hits and two runs with three walks and four strikeouts. He threw 57 of his 97 pitches for strikes.
Jimenez needed 113 pitches to get through six innings, allowing six hits and four runs while walking three and striking out two.
The Royals had not won since a 3-0 victory at Oakland in the fifth day of the season.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Royals remain winless at home on the season. … The Indians dropped to 2-5 at home. … Kansas City optioned reliever Jeremy Jeffress to Triple-A Omaha and recalled reliever Tommy Hottovy. … Cleveland outfielder Shin-Soo Choo did not play Wednesday due to a left hamstring injury.
