Orioles 7, Yankees 1: J.J. Hardy belted a two-run home run and Chris Davis had three hits and a solo shot to spark visiting Baltimore's rout and deliver manager Buck Showalter his 1,000th career win.
Orioles starter Brian Matusz (1-3) threw 6 1/3 solid innings to halt a 12-game losing streak. He won for the first time since June 6, 2011, and avoided matching the franchise record for most consecutive defeats.
The 24-year-old left-hander scattered six hits and allowed only a solo homer by Curtis Granderson in the first inning as Baltimore snapped a four-game losing streak against the Yankees this season.
Orioles designated hitter Nick Johnson ended a season-opening 0-for-29 skid with an RBI double in the eight inning. He was also part of a pivotal rally in the sixth when New York left fielder Eduardo Nunez misplayed his fly ball, allowing two runs to score for a 6-1 lead.
Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter went 3-for-5 for his major league-leading 13th consecutive multi-hit game and lifted his batting average to .400.
Phil Hughes (1-4), who served up the homers to Hardy and Davis, allowed four runs on four hits in 5 1/3 innings. He struck out six and walked one.
Granderson homered for the third time in four games, moving him into a tie for the American League lead with nine.
