Jaden Shackelford scored 20 points and Jahvon Quinerly added 19 points to lead host No. 14 Alabama to an 86-59 victory over Oakland on Friday night in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
The Crimson Tide (4-0) bounced back after a sometimes-sluggish performance earlier in the week against South Alabama during which they turned the ball over 22 times.
Alabama committed only 12 turnovers on Friday and assisted on 15 of its 29 made field goals as the Crimson Tide broke open a close game and led by as many as 29 in the second half.
Alabama also withstood a tremendous individual effort from Oakland's Jamal Cain, who finished with a game-high 31 points and 10 rebounds on 10 for 23 shooting from the field. The Tide, however, held every other player for the Golden Grizzlies (2-2) to single-digit scoring and scored 14 points off nine Oakland turnovers.
Trey Townsend finished with eight points and five rebounds, but shot 2 for 11 overall.
The Crimson Tide shot just 10-for-36 from 3-point range, but made up for it at the free throw line, going 18-for-22 thanks largely to some aggressive drives to the rim.
Charles Bediako finished with 12 points on 5-for-8 shooting and JD Davison added 10 points, seven rebounds and five assists.
Alabama dominated Oakland on the glass, outrebounding the Golden Grizzlies 51-35 while outscoring them 38-24 in the paint.
Oakland, which had scored an upset win over a Power 5 opponent already this season when it beat Oklahoma State on the road last week, also shot well from the foul line (17-for-22), but struggled worse from 3-point range, making just 4 of its 23 attempts.
Alabama's signature defense stifled Oakland throughout the game and held it to just 30.2 percent shooting from the field (19-for-63).
Alabama closed out a four-game homestand undefeated before it heads to play Iona in the first of three games in the ESPN Events Invitational in Orlando. Oakland will next face Vermont on Monday in the first of three games in the Gulf Coast Showcase in Estero, Fla.
