Jalen Wilson matched a career-high with 23 points and David McCormack posted a double-double with 19 points and 15 rebounds Saturday as No. 9 Kansas throttled West Virginia 85-59 at Lawrence, Kan.
Ochai Agbaji added 20 points for the Jayhawks (14-2, 3-1 Big 12), while Wilson went 10 of 13 from the field and added eight rebounds with five assists.
West Virginia shot just 27 percent (17 of 63), including a 1 of 9 performance from Taz Sherman, who finished with five points. Sherman entered averaging 19.9 points as the No. 2 scorer in the Big 12 Conference behind Agbaji (20.6).
Reserve Malik Curry paced West Virginia (13-3, 2-2) with 23 points. Jalen Bridges contributed a double-double with 12 points and 11 boards.
The Jayhawks trailed by eight points at 22-14 midway through the first half before a three-point play by McCormack sparked a 15-7 run by Kansas that tied the game 29-all. McCormack went 9 of 13 from the field after he logged 10 minutes and did not attempt a field goal in the Jayhawks' victory over Iowa State on Tuesday.
Kansas found a higher gear in the second half, opening with a 9-0 run to lead 42-31 before outscoring West Virginia 52-28 over the final 20 minutes.
Sherman missed his first eight attempts before finally connecting on a layup with 5:06 remaining. He failed to score in double figures for the first time this season.
Agbaji scored seven of his 10 first-half points in the final four minutes before the break as Kansas rallied for a 33-31 lead. His late run helped account for a string of nine unanswered points.
Curry's shot with 4:13 remaining in the first half was the Mountaineers' last field goal before the break. Curry netted 10 first-half points.
McCormack added nine first-half points for Kansas, which shot 41.2 percent before the break but proved hotter than West Virginia (22.6 percent).
The Jayhawks again played without starter Remy Martin, who is dealing with a strained knee.
The loss dropped West Virginia head coach Bob Huggins to 0-11 all-time at Kansas, including an 0-10 mark as coach of the Mountaineers.
