Alabama roared back from a 14-point second-half deficit against Georgia to force overtime, then dominated the extra period to post a 65-59 win in the second round of the Southeastern Conference tournament at the Georgia Dome.
Alabama sent the game to overtime when freshman point guard Trevor Releford scored on a layup with four seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 53-53. The Crimson Tide (21-11) outscored Georgia 12-6 in overtime, with Tony Mitchell's 3-pointer with 1:54 remaining the catalyst that put them ahead to stay.
JaMychal Green led Alabama with 20 points and 15 rebounds and Chris Hines added 15 points. The victory may have clinched an NCAA bid for the Crimson Tide, who were considered a bubble team despite winning the SEC Western Division.
Georgia (21-11) again showed the lack of a killer instinct and is likely headed to the NIT. The Bulldogs were led by Travis Leslie with 24 points and nine rebounds and Trey Thompkins with 19 points.
Alabama advances to the SEC semifinals at 1 p.m. and will play the winner of the Kentucky-Ole Miss game.
