Dwight Hardy scored 14 points, all in the second half, as St. John's came from behind to defeat Arizona State 67-58 in the Great Alaska Shootout final at Sullivan Arena in Anchorage.
Justin Brownlee scored a team-high 20 points, and Malik Stith scored five of his 10 points during a crucial stretch late in the game as the Red Storm (4-1) outscored Arizona State 47-28 in the second half.
Ty Abbott scored a game-high 22 points for the Sun Devils (3-2), including 14 in the first half.
St. John's went on a 20-8 run, capped by Brownlee's 3-pointer to tie the game at 40 with
12:19 remaining.
The Red Storm took the lead for good 53-51 on Malik Stith's
steal and breakaway layup with 5:30 to go. Stith also banked in a
3-pointer from 27 feet as the shot clock expired to put St. John's ahead
58-53 with 3:58 left.
Hardy's four-point play gave St. John's a 62-55 lead with 3:05 to go.
Paris Horne had 11 points off the bench for St. John's, which defeated Drake 82-39 in the semifinals.
Arizona State's Trent Lockett, who entered the game averaging 20.8 points was held to 10.
