John Jenkins shook off a scoreless first half with 17 points in the final 14 minutes Wednesday as No. 18 Vanderbilt erased a 14-point deficit and rallied past host Georgia 64-56.
Jenkins, the SEC’s leader scorer at 19.8 points, hit five 3-pointers and fueled a 27-6 game-ending run for Vanderbilt (19-6, 7-4 SEC), which pulled within two games of idle Florida in the SEC East race.
Gerald Robinson scored 15 points to pace Georgia (17-8, 6-5 SEC), which did not score from the field in the final 9:52.
Festus Ezeli finished with nine points, 11 rebounds and eight blocked shots for Vanderbilt, which pulled down 20 offensive rebounds and finished 12 of 25 from 3-point range.
The Bulldogs looked poised to get a huge victory and bolster their NCAA at-large berth resume with a 40-26 lead on Sherrard Brantley’s 3-pointer with 14:41 left, and Travis Leslie’s 3-pointer with 9:52 remaining put Georgia ahead 53-40.
But Jenkins shot Vanderbilt back into it. He did not score until there was 13:18 to go, but made four 3-pointers during a 15-2 run and tied the game 55-55 on a 3-pointer with 4:02 left.
Jenkins’s jumper with 2:50 to go pushed the Commodores ahead 57-55 for good.
