Marcus Morris and Markieff Morris combined for 44 points and 14 rebounds, as No. 2 Kansas smoked host Baylor 85-65 Monday in Waco, Texas.
After a week of unimpressive performances, Kansas finally looked like the No. 2 team in the nation. Coach Bill Self’s talented squad struggled in close wins over Nebraska and Iowa State to open conference play, but wasted little time jumping on the Bears in front of a boisterous home crowd.
The Morris twins scored 18 straight points for Kansas over a six-minute stretch in the first half. The Jayhawks (18-0, 3-0 Big 12) were up 20 by the half.
Kansas shot 62.5 percent from the field, won the rebounding battle 24-17 and held Baylor star guard LaceDarius Dunn to 13 points, nine below his average. The Bears shot 17 more free throws than Kansas and still lost by 20.
The reigning Big 12 Player of the Week, Marcus Morris hit 10 of 14 shots and finished with a game-high 25 points. Markieff Morris, the conference’s leading rebounder, had nine boards to go along with 19 points on 9-of-10 shooting.
The Bears (12-5, 2-2 Big 12) tried to climb back early in the second half, but were never able to trim the deficit to single digits.Freshman Perry Jones led Baylor with 20 points.
The Jayhawks return home to host No. 11 Texas on Saturday. Baylor hosts Oklahoma State on Saturday.
