North Carolina got back on the winning track with an easy 85-60 win over William & Mary. The Tar Heels, who are 6-0 at home, improve to 8-5 while the loss drops the Tribe to 4-7.

The Tar Heels started out slowly, but were never seriously challenged. Dexter Strickland led five Tar Heels in double figures with 19 points. Tyler Zeller and Leslie McDonald added 14 points apiece. William & Mary’s Kyle Gaillard led all scorers with 28 points on 12 of 16 shooting.

After the Tribe tied the score at 6-6 early in the first half, North Carolina went on a 22-6 run on its way to a 43-20 halftime lead. North Carolina shot a respectable 43 percent from the field, but defense spurred the victory. The Tar Heels forced 21 turnovers, including 14 steals, three by Strickland. Despite playing starters and key players until the final few minutes of the second half, North Carolina barely outscored William & Mary, 43-40.

The Tar Heels, who were coming off a loss to Texas, are off until next Tuesday when they host a solid Rutgers team.
