Fordham showed how it could win with another lackluster performance from its bench.
The Rams beat St. John’s 84-81 at Rose Hill Gym in New York City Saturday, snapping a three-game losing streak against the Red Storm.
Fordham (5-4) received 75 points from its starters, nabbing just nine from three bench players. Its bench entered the game having been outscored 117-41 on the season, a difference of more than nine points a game.
Guard Brenton Butler led the Rams with a team-high 22 points in 39 minutes. That was his third consecutive game with 20-plus points. Fellow guard Alberto Estwick also added 20 points in 38.
That was enough to weather a game-high 30 points from St. John’s guard Dwight Hardy, but only because the Red Storm (5-3) received just 10 points from their bench.
