Andrew Nicholson hit a jumper from the corner with six seconds to play to lift St. Bonaventure to a 67-66 victory over St. John’s in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday in New York.
Dwight Hardy put St. John’s up 66-65 with a layup with 29 seconds to go, but Nicholson answered. After a timeout, Hardy had a chance to win the game but missed a jumper at the buzzer.
St. John’s (5-2) led by as many as 10 in the second half, but St. Bonaventure hung around and Nicholson tied it at 53-53 on a dunk with just over eight minutes to play and it was back-and-forth from there.
Michael Davenport led the Bonnies (5-2) with 22 points and Nicholson added 19 and 13 rebounds. Nicholson has now recorded a double-double in three straight games.
Hardy led the Red Storm with 24 points and Justin Brownlee added 14, but it was not enough to keep their five-game win streak from being snapped.
