Verdell Jones III finished with 18 points and eight rebounds as Indiana bounced back from its first loss of the year with an easy 79-57 victory over Savannah State on Saturday in Bloomington, Ind.
The Hoosiers (7-1) broke an early deadlock by scoring 10 straight points to grab a 22-12 lead with 11:01 left in the first half. An 11-2 spurt built the margin to 44-28 at the intermission. Indiana shot 60.9 percent (14 of 23) in the opening period, including 6 of 8 from 3-point range, and hit 55.3 percent of its field goal attempts for the game.
Savannah State, meanwhile, struggled through a 32.7 percent shooting night on 18-of-55 shooting, including 5 for 18 from 3-point range. Each team had 19 turnovers, but the Hoosiers had a 26-13 edge in points off turnovers.
Christian Watford scored 14 points for Indiana, while Jordan Hulls and Maurice Creek had 11 points apiece.
Savannah State (1-9) got 15 points from Joshua Montgomery and 14 from Preston Blackmon.
