Seton Hall used a strong defensive effort to post a 69-49 victory over St. Peter’s on Monday.
Jeff Robinson had 10 points and seven rebounds and Jordan Theodore added 11 points.
The victory snapped a two-game slide for the Pirates (3-3), who fell to Clemson and Xavier last week in the Paradise Jam.
But Seton Hall had few problems on Monday, holding the Peacocks to 34 percent (17-of-50) shooting and just 1-of-10 from beyond the arc. The Pirates forced 14 turnovers and finished with a 39-34 advantage on the boards.
Seton Hall will still have to get better once Big East play starts and the competition ramps up. The Pirates hit just 7-of-27 3-pointers on Monday, which could be a common theme against the strong guards in the Big East. Robinson and Theodore were the only two Pirates in double figures.
They have two more tests on the road next week, traveling to Arkansas and Massachusetts, that will give them a better picture of how they stand heading into conference play.
Ryan Bacon scored 13 points for St. Peter’s (2-4), which entered the game ranked 346th in the nation in scoring.
