Christian Watford scored 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead host Indiana to a 71-54 triumph over Mississippi Valley State on Tuesday night.
The Delta Devils carried the confidence from a near-miss at Georgia into Tuesday's game and put up a good fight before miscues allowed the Hoosiers to pull away. Indiana (3-0) took advantage of 23 MVSU giveaways, finishing the game with a 32-9 advantage in points off turnovers.
Mississippi Valley State (0-2) jumped out to a 7-0 lead and stayed out in front for much of the first half, but the Hoosiers scored the last five points before break, including a three-pointer by Jordan Hulls with five seconds remaining, to go into the locker room with a 27-23 edge. Indiana then put together a 17-3 run to open the second half, stretching the lead to 44-26 with 12:03 left.
Terrence Joyner paced MVSU in defeat with 15 points, while Falando Jones and D’Angelo Jackson added 10 points each.
